Remembering Mom

People ask me – “What was your Mom like…before?

I asked my brothers and sisters – there are five of us – that question.

We paint a pretty similar picture.

A natural leader, a dynamic positive, industrious, funny, competitive, devoted to family, stoic, giving, civic-minded, opinionated and a great baker.

She was all those things – adored by her children (even as teen-age daughters, which I understand is rare,) loved by her family (both hers and Dad’s) and admired by her friends and neighbors.

She was the glue that held our family together.

And in so many ways, that never changed.  Alzheimer’s distilled her to her essence.

The art was the big surprise but it was likely there all along, waiting to be released once her internal censor shut down.
